Contrast can be applied to choice through our protagonist either making a good choice, showing the reader that our protagonist is growing more self-aware, or a bad choice, having them backsliding into old habits.

The most straightforward result of a choice is for it to bring a consequence.

A deeper understanding of why character as cornerstone works so well means we can vary our approach to character and, by doing so, place the cornerstone in the way that works best for our personal intention with our story.

If the narrative pieces won’t fit it’s usually because the character journey is too undefined, leaving the narrative meaning with little to no resonance.
